OPP Detachment Board

The Town of Kapuskasing contracts the Ontario Provincial Police for police protection within the community.

The James Bay OPP Detachment Board (2) is a joint detachment board between the communities of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam and Fauquier Strickland.

As of April 1, 2024, the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 replaced the Police Services Act, 1990. The James Bay OPP Detachment Board (2) was created under this Act.

WHAT DOES THE OPP DETACHMENT BOARD DO?

As set out in the legislation, the James Bay OPP Detachment Board’s role includes:
  1. Participating in the selection of the Detachment Commander;
  2. Determining objectives and priorities for police services after consultation with the Detachment Commander;
  3. Advising the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment;
  4. Monitoring the performance of the Detachment Commander;
  5. Reviewing regular reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment, and
