Kapuskasing is well represented at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario

August 23, 2024 Members of the Town of Kapuskasing took part in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa earlier this week where we represented our municipality and our region’s interests in delegation meetings. We participated in three delegation meetings as part of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) with the Ministry of Health regarding changes to the Mental Health Act to address substance abuse and safety, and nursing perplexity in Northern Ontario; and the Ministry of Transportation regarding the uploading of sections of highways 11 and 17 also known as the Connecting Links to reduce the financial burden on municipalities in the north. A joint delegation represented by the Towns of Kapuskasing, Hearst, Cochrane and Chapleau was also held with the Minister of Forestry focusing on long-term plans to sustain our forest industry by establishing a sawmill residues task force. Additional meetings and discussions were held with the New Democratic Party of Canada and Green Party of Ontario caucuses as part of ongoing dialogue to advocate for our region. Mayor Plourde also met with representatives from Ontario Power Generation on project development involving the Electrifying Ontario initiative and will be meeting with the Minister of Long-Term Care in the weeks to come to follow up on the additional long-term care beds in Kapuskasing portfolio. Our efforts are focused on initiatives that strengthen democratic processes and benefit our communities. During the conference, Mayor Plourde was also elected to the AMO Board of Directors - Northern Caucus. AMO develops policy positions and reports on issues of general interest to municipal governments; conducts ongoing liaison with provincial government elected and non-elected representatives; informs and educates governments, the media and the public on municipal issues; markets innovative and beneficial services to the municipal sector. We are committed to and are continuously working with all levels of government, including our regional partners, to provide our citizens and communities with a better place to live, work and play!

  • ARE YOU ON THE VOTERS LIST?

In preparation for the 2026 municipal elections, we encourage everyone to ensure they are on the voters’ list and to verify their information.

It's quick and easy to verify your voter information!

The municipal voters list is different from provincial and federal lists. So, even if you received a voter's card for the recent federal and provincial elections, it doesn't automatically mean you will be on the municipal voters list, especially if your information has changed. For municipal elections the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation - MPAC is responsible for collecting the information of residents in Ontario, such as name, date of birth, citizenship and school support, in order to create a preliminary list of electors. Municipalities then use that preliminary list of electors to prepare their voters lists.
