Preparing for an Emergency

FOR ANY EMERGENCY, DIAL 911

Depending on the nature and scale of the event, the Mayor of the affected municipality (or the Premier of Ontario) may declare an emergency.

In our case, this would enact the Town of Kapuskasing Emergency Plan.

Emergencies can occur within the Town of Kapuskasing, and the most likely are:

  • Arson
  • Critical infrastructure failure of the water system
  • Floods
  • Forest fires
  • Hydro outage
  • Major structural fires
  • Pandemic
  • Rail transportation accidents
  • Road transportation accident
  • Tornadoes
  • Winter storms

Contact the Protective Services department.

You can also play a part in emergency preparedness by having a 72-hour survival kit for each member of your family. Learn about the potential risks and hazards in your community and make sure everyone in your family knows what to do before, during and after should an emergency disaster strike.

Together we can ensure that the Town of Kapuskasing is a disaster resilient community.

Winter Happens, Be Prepared!

Emergency Kit

  • Expect the unexpected this winter. Pack your emergency kit in an easy-to-carry bag or suitcase on wheels. Include essentials that will last you and your household for at least 3 days immediately following an emergency.
  • Do you have the essentials to weather a multi-day emergency? Stock your emergency kit with non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food, and a manual can opener in case of a winter emergency.
  • Make sure to have warm clothes like wool socks and mitts in case you need to leave your home as part of an evacuation.
  • Winter storms can cause power outages. #BePrepared by ensuring your gadgets stay charged when you need them most. Include backup chargers, power banks, and extra batteries in your emergency kit.

Vehicle Winter Survival Kit

  • Winter storms can turn roads into ice rinks. Help reduce the stress of winter driving by preparing a winter emergency car kit to stay safe on your journeys: pack essentials like a blanket, candles, and a shovel.
  • While you can't control the weather, you can #BePrepared. Keep emergency numbers and personal contacts handy in case of a winter emergency.

FALSE ALARMS

In an effort to reduce the number of false alarms occuring in the Municipality, the Town of Kapuskasing has implemented false alarm fees. The policy will be applied equally to all residences and types of businesses and/or institutions.
